  5. What Is It?
  6. ~~~~~~~~~~~
  7.     Used in conjunction with the AmigaDOS Search command, this file gives
  8. you the powerful ability of searching through the `GU40_Longs' file for the
  9. values you're interested in. Being as the actual listing is huge, this file
  10. makes the job MUCH more easy!

  12. How to Install?
  13. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  14.     To install this file, you'll need to copy the "GetUserSearch" file, as
  15. well as this README file somwehere on your system. I chose to keep my copy
  16. inside the "GU40Pack/" directory, and then stored this directory in my TEXTS:
  17. assigned path(this is what I call my gfiles area).

  19.     In your BBSMENU file, which is located in your CNET: path, add this NEW
  20. line to the bottom of Menu # 1; Maintenance Menu:

  22.         GUS, Get User Search | {#0<path>GetUserSearch}
  23.                                |  ~~~|~~
  24.         Control-Q character ---'     `--> Where you stored the file above.
  25.  
  26.     In your "Shell-Startup" file, which is located in your S: directory,
  27. add the following line to the BOTTOM of the file:

  29.         Alias gu "search <path>gu40_longs [] PATTERN"
  30.  
  31.     Again, replace <path> above with the directory you stored the GU40_Longs
  32. file. Also, everything AFTER the gu bove should be enclosed in double quotes
  33. as shown.

  35.     Now SAVE both files, then reload your BBSTEXT file by clicking your
  36. Control Panel once, then pressing RAMIGA-T to reload texts.

  38. Using the GUS and GU Commands
  39. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  40.     Enter your bbs, then type "GUS ?" (minus quotes) from any command prompt
  41. to display the help page for Searcher. Hopefully, this page will give you
  42. all the help you need in using this file.

  44.     The "Alias" line you added to your "Shell-Startup" file gives you a GU
  45. command you can use directly in Amiga Dos. Open a shell window, then type:

  47.         1> gu <text>
  48.  
  49.     Where <text> is the text you wish to search for. Line numbers will ALWAYS
  50. be shown when using the GU command, and you'll always use the standard text
  51. display format. Remember, though, that if your text contains SPACES, please
  52. enclose them in double quotes, as shown below:

  54.         1> gu "total calls"
  55.  
  56.     Lastly, pattern matching is enabled when the GU command is used. Remember
  57. this if using ? or #? in your search text, as they'll be considered wildcards,
  58. instead of actually SEARCHING for a "?" or "#?".

  60.     This file received a complete rewrite, and no longer needs a separate
  61. data file. This will allow you to make updates and/or changes to your list
  62. and still be able to search out your needed values with the utmost of ease!

  64.     If you have ANY problems, please let me know about them ASAP. This file
  65. should work equally well on 3.05c systems and 4.26+ systems, however is NOT
  66. compatible with 2.63 systems.
